For the purposes of this Guild a Guild is defined as “an organisation of persons with common interests”.
This Guild operates as a Peer Support Group and members of the Guild are subscribers to an information and networking service that they have joined in order to enhance their professional development.
This Guild is aimed at the professional user and is not intended as a resource for members of the public. If you are looking for a therapist you are advised to seek one through a professional associations membership lists. Professional associations set standards, enforce codes of ethics and provide complaints procedures in the event that you are unhappy with the services provided by/or behaviour of their member. There will be cases where therapists work independently and do not hold memberships of any professional bodies. Provided that their is no statutory requirement (the majority of therapies in the UK are offered under common law) to hold certain qualifications or professional memberships this is perfectly legal. If you are seeking such services the onus remains with you to ensure that the services available meet your needs and to make any inquiries that are reasonable before entering into any agreements.
The Guild operates outside of the regulatory framework and is not involved in setting standards, whether voluntary or otherwise, and the Guild does not operate as a professional association or trade body. We may cooperate with other organisations for the exchange of information and where benefits may be gained by the Guild and/or its members. However we maintain strict political neutrality.
We are publishing this statement for the avoidance of misunderstanding.
The directory section
A listing in the directory section of this web site should not be deemed an endorsement. It is an advertising service provided as an additional service to Guild members. A directory listing on this site is not an endorsement by the Guild and Guild members remain entirely responsible at all times for their own actions or inactions, and any material that they publish in the directory section.
Guild members posting to the directory section are required to abide by the UK’s code for advertising as administered by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA). This is a strict condition of membership and will be enforced. Any Guild member who fails to cooperate with an ASA ruling will be removed from Guild membership without prejudice. Should such an event occur it will be deemed an internal matter for the Guild and no public announcements will be made.
In the UK complaints about advertising should be directed to the ASA.
From the ASA site www.asa.org.uk:
“The Advertising Standards Authority is the UK’s independent regulator of advertising across all media. We apply the Advertising Codes, which are written by the Committees of Advertising Practice. Our work includes acting on complaints and proactively checking the media to take action against misleading, harmful or offensive advertisements”
Membership renewal may be approved subject to receiving assurances in writing regarding future behaviour. This will be entirely at our discretion and no correspondence will be entered into.
